Occupational Health and Safety

Our Basic Stance on Occupational Safety

The Group is working to create safe and secure working environments and systems at each of its locations, including its production sites and affiliated companies. The Group places the highest priority on occupational health and safety in its production activities, and is working to create safe and secure working environments by thoroughly complying with all health and safety-related laws and regulations, as well as by setting targets such as zero occupational accidents, improved health management, and the promotion of measures to prevent infectious diseases. In order to ensure occupational health and safety while promoting security and disaster prevention, we have established an occupational safety committee and health committee at each of our bases, and we have clearly delineated the essential matters that the Group must carry out in our internal regulations to ensure thorough guidance.
We are implementing health and safety risk assessments at each production site, as well as improving and thoroughly enforcing disaster prevention measures from both from tangible and intangible perspectives, such as modifying equipment to prevent accidents from occurring and updating related manuals to reflect the current situation. We are also conducting training to evaluate the effectiveness of these measures.
In addition, we systematically conduct risk assessments of equipment, machinery, operations, chemical substances, etc., and promote measures to prevent hazards and health problems. Furthermore, we prepare for emergency situations by maintaining manuals and conducting drills and other training.
The Group had four occupational accidents (excluding commute-related accidents) in FY2023 (of which zero resulted in lost work time). An analysis of the causes of the accidents indicated that the accidents could be categorized as “caught-in/caught-between,” “cuts and lacerations” and “trips and falls.” We are taking measures from both tangible and intangible perspectives to prevent such accidents from occurring.
In response to occupational accidents, each site carries out investigations into the causes and implements measures to prevent recurrence. We are working to ensure that corrective measures are taken and that all employees are informed.

Measures to Prevent Health Problems from Overwork

The Group is pursuing measures to reduce long working hours.
Specific measures include ensuring that employees do not work excessive hours beyond the working hours agreed between labor and management through the use of an attendance management system to ensure strict labor management in the workplace and human resources departments; introducing and promoting flexible working styles that combine flexible working hours and remote working to suit the situation at each location (hybrid work); encouraging employees to take holidays; and discouraging overtime.
In addition, with reference to the data on our working hours, we offer consultations with occupational physicians and public health nurses at a level beyond the legal requirements, and when necessary, we implement measures such as restricting work.

Measures to Prevent Mental Health Problems

We conduct annual stress checks for Group employees (participation rate: 96.8% in FY2021, 95.6% in FY2022, 95.2% in FY2023).
In addition, we have put in place a system that enables us to respond to the needs of each individual employee in a detailed and considerate manner, by setting up a consultation service that can be used not only within the company but also externally, so that employees who need help can easily receive support.

Labor-Management Relations

In promoting occupational health and safety, the Group recognizes the importance of healthy labor-management relations based on mutual understanding and trust. At each of our bases, we hold all kinds of labor-management conferences and health and safety committees, etc., with labor unions and employee associations, thereby working to improve labor-management communication.
